Tiger Eye, Hawk Eye and Dragon Eye

Tiger's Eye is a yellowish-brown semiprecious variety of quartz with a silky or chatoyant luster.  Hawk's Eye is the related blue-colored variety. The chatoyancy in these stones is gained from the parallel intergrowth of quartz crystals and the altered amphibole fibers. There is also a red variety, sometimes trade named, Dragon's Eye. The red variety is natural, but very rare. The red variety in the marketplace is most often created from heating the golden variety. One can do this easily, even at home in their own oven!
